There are hundreds of ways to generate leads online, but which ways are the best and most effective for your business? Much of lead gen is trial and error; discovering which methods work best for your business and which don't is a process that you can't skip over to get to the finish line. We're sharing ten ways to generate leads efficiently on the blog today... check it out!

1. company blog

Blogging is the best way to generate healthy leads because you're providing free, valuable content to readers organically. We break up the Ask.Ytel blog by categories including technology, communications, sales & marketing and culture so there's a little bit for everyone, regardless of the industry or profession they're in. If a potential customer stumbles across your blog and finds a useful article, becomes a loyal reader, simply subscribes or reaches out to your team, your blog is serving its purpose!

2. Calls to Action

Calls to Action are their own art form... there's definitely a way to optimize these buttons so they match your branding, and entice your users to click and sign up! Read more about the best practices in Calls to Action by the true masters of the craft... Hubspot. Our best advice with CTAs is keeping them short and sweet, but still powerful and punchy.

3. Newsletter

Sending out a newsletter is a simple way to generate more leads, simply by putting a "Sign Up for Our Newsletter" button on your website, social media channels, and wherever else people can find you online. The trick with a newsletter is to keep your audience engaged through interesting content that doesn't revolve around your business alone... educate and entertain them, but keep it light! Read more of our newsletter tips here.

4. Social Media

Social media is a fantastic (mostly) FREE tool to not only find leads, but connect with them on a much more personal level that wouldn't happen otherwise. LinkedIn is the most favored tool used by our Sales team, because you can search by specific keywords (industry or profession) that are indicated on each user's profile. It's very easy to drill down and target demographics on LinkedIn because of this advanced search tool.

5. Gated Content Offers

Gated (meaning users have to enter their email address to download the content) is probably the easiest way to garner leads on this list. Content offers can be anything from eBooks, infographics, educational resources, and downloadable templates like our free Hiring Template. It's a win win for both parties, the user gets a piece of content that they can apply to their business, and your business gets the contact information of a lead that you can potentially convert into a customer!

6. Events

What better way to generate new business than face to face at industry-focused events? Make time to attend local workshops and conferences to see what kind of business you can find through networking and rubbing shoulders. This may be hit or miss til you find your niche, but will be so worth it in the long run. The amount of valuable contacts and leads you can meet in person will shock you; you'll meet tons of new people, expand your network, and gain referrals. Additionally, you can grow your company's brand by having representation at these events.  Don't forget business cards!

7. Client referrals

The best business is existing business, right? Happy customers will refer their friends and acquaintances if you ask, so don't be afraid to ask. The worst thing that could happen is they say no, and you've lost nothing in the process. The opportunity here is huge, so start by selecting a few happy customers that you think would be certain to refer you and go from there.

8. Discount codes

Flash deals and discount codes are a great way to increase brand awareness and generate demand. By including a strong call-to-action and time constraint, you can create a sense of urgency for people to respond to your campaigns. Many consumer companies are adopting this as a way to combat skyrocketing cart abandonment rates, but it is also highly relevant in the B2B space as well. - Marketo

9. Paid Social advertising

With recent updates to many social networks’ algorithms, advertising on social media platforms is becoming more important than ever. These updates are made to give users a better experience, so they’ll see less promotional content and more of the relevant content that they want to see. This means that you’ll need to supplement your organic posts with paid promotion to get your posts seen. Each social platform has unique demographic criteria that allow you to target ads  (location, job title, age, industry, gender, etc.). Leverage the right platform and targeting options to ensure you’re going after the audience who will find value in your content and that you’re not wasting paid resources on megaphoning.  - Marketo

10. Offer a free trial

Offering a trial service on your product is a great way to generate demand for your business, and will open many doors too. Potential customers will have the opportunity to experience everything firsthand versus of on a demo, with the end goal being they grow attached to your product and extend the trial and sign up. Don't over-extend yourself with free trials, however; start with a 3-day to one week to see how your leads digest that before offering anything longer.
